Khahun Mundhum — The Wedding Blessing

Recited by the Phedangma during Limbu wedding ceremonies. The blessing invokes natural imagery to sanctify the marriage bond and connect the couple to the ancestral lineage.

— Transliteration —

Khahun Mundhum

— English Translation —

May these two lives flow together as the Tamor and the Arun flow to the sea. May Yuma Sammang bless this union with the strength of mountains, the patience of rivers, the warmth of the hearth. As the forest shelters the birds, may this family shelter its children. As the earth gives without asking, may this love give without counting. May the ancestors smile upon this joining, and may the children of this union walk in wisdom all their days.
