Yehang — Funerary Recitation

Recited by the Samba priest during funeral rituals to guide the soul to the ancestral realm. Considered one of the most spiritually delicate Mundhum recitations.

Transliteration

Yehang Mundhum

English Translation

Departed one, do not look back. The path to the ancestors is straight before you. Cross the river that separates the living from the dead. Climb the mountain to the place of forefathers. They wait for you with songs and feasting. We who remain will honor your name. We will speak of you at the hearth. Your spirit joins the great gathering. Travel well. Travel in peace.
